Elevate member Bobbie Gouveia says Elevate has given her everything she needed in a workout: small group classes, individualized attention, and a great member support network.
Q: You’ve been a member for six years. What keeps bringing you back?
A: Even through several changes of ownership, the culture of the gym has continued. The coaches care about health, recognize when I am struggling, and offer both challenging classes and emotional support to keep me going. The relationships I have developed over the years keep me coming back, and hold me accountable!
Q: Why do you exercise? What benefits do you see?
A: I’ve had a love/hate relationship with fitness over the years, but eventually came to grips with how important it is to my physical and mental health. Being physically active makes a big difference in how I approach my daily life, and when I slack off, I feel it in all aspects of my life.
Q: What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?
A: After having issues with my energy level during workouts, I sought the assistance of a nutritionist who identified some underlying issues that we worked together to resolve. Our focus allowed me to lose 60+ pounds that had plagued me for years. Now, I focus on continuing to build muscle and work on my endurance, both critical things as I age. 🙁
Q: What advice would you give to others who might be working towards this or a similar goal?
A: My advice to anyone pursuing a fitness goal, is to not be so focused on one thing that you miss other important things that are going on with you/your body. Ask for help if you are hitting a plateau or losing motivation. Seek out people that will hold you accountable. Invest in relationships that will help both you and those around you to stay on track.
